Led by Shenzhen Clou Electronics Corporation, Huazhong University of Science and Technology and our institute participated the project demonstration meeting of “energy storage and grid connection of megawatt-class wind power energy”. The meeting was held in Shenzhen Wuzhou Hotel on March 24, and presided by Jin Lu, the section chief of high technology section of Guangzhou provincial science and technology office. Total 30 persons, concluding Academician Linie Li of China Southern Power Grid Corporation, Academician Jianchao Zheng of China Guangdong Nuclear Power Holding Corporation, Academician Shijie Cheng of Huazhong University of Science and Technology, specialists of Dongfang Electric Corporation, Chongqiang university, Clou Electronics Corporation, Dalian Rongke Power Corporation and the leaders of Development and reform commission of Shenzhen, Science, Industry, Trade and Information commission of Shenzhen Municipally, participated the project demonstration meeting.

Due to the technology challenges of discontinuities, instability and low voltage ride-through, the grid connection of wind power will give a serious impact on the safety and stable operation of grids, and even result a devastating impact on grids. According to reports, almost all of the wind power stations in china, constructed after 2008, cannot be connected to the grid to operate. To solve the technical challenges of grid connection of wind power stations and promote the application of wind power, Shenzhen Clou Electronics Corporation, Huazhong University of Science and Technology and our institute have signed the corporation agreement of “producing, studying and researching for energy storage and grid connection of wind power generation” to co-construct the industrial  for energy storage and grid connection technology.

In the demonstration meeting, Haiming Ruan, the deputy chief engineer of Shenzhen Clou Electronics Corporation made the presentation of “energy storage and grid connection of megawatt-class wind power energy”. Academician Shijie Cheng of Huazhong University of Science and Technology gave the presentation of “energy storage technology and its application on the smart grid”. Prof. Huamin Zhang of our institute made the presentation of “redox flow battery for energy storage and its application”. Manager Rao Zheng of Sichuan Clou New Energy Corporation made the presentation of “challenges and present situation of grid connection in China”. The specialists and representative give the questions and anwsers to the redox flow energy storage battery and grid connection technology. All the specialists deemed that the demonstrated project is feasible and proposed to permit the project as soon as possible.
