January 17, CAS Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics (DICP) 70th Anniversary Conference (I): DICP Symposium (I) & 46th Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics Science Forum: 2018 Annual Meeting of International Coalition for Energy Storage and Innovation (ICESI) opened in DICP. The annual meeting was jointly hosted by DICP, Qingdao Institute of Bioenergy and Bioprocess Technology, Institute of Clean Energy Innovation of CAS and Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL), and attracted nearly 300 experts and scholars from home and abroad.
The opening ceremony was presided over by Prof. Xianfeng Li, who is the head of Energy Storage Division of DICP. Dr. Jun Liu, chairman of the conference, Battery Fellow of PNNL and Director of the United States Battery 500 Consortium made an opening statement. Jud Virden, Associate Laboratory Director of PNNL, Siqiang Wang, Director of Energy Conservation and Technology Equipment Department of National Energy Administration, Yan Liu, Vice Mayor of Dalian municipal government, and Zhongmin Liu, Director of DICP made important speeches respectively. They highly affirmed the great achievements and contributions of DICP in the field of energy storage/conversion, and further expected the future development prospects of the energy storage industry. Then the honored guests came to the Stage and officially inaugurated ICESI, together. A live webcast through the China Science and Technology platform was taken during the entire Ceremony by CAS Information Center, receiving a huge online viewing volume of 11000 times.
ICESI is jointly sponsored by scientists from over 20 countries and regions including China, the United States and Germany. It is supported by the U.S. Department of Energy, Stanford University, the Chinese Academy of Sciences and many other agencies. The Coalition plans to set up a secretariat in Dalian, China and Washington, DC, respectively. The leaders and secretaries of the coalition will be selected by worldwide scientists. As an international platform to promote the deep integration of production and research in energy storage/conversion, ICESI will help identify the gaps in science, markets and technologies to promote collaboration in the international community and collaborations between the research community and industry, provide realistic assessment of current and future technologies, and provide guidance for long term research and long term investment, which is of great significance to promote the development of energy storage industry. In the future, the Coalition will serve as an international academic organization in the field of energy storage and assume international responsibility for promoting and standardizing the development of energy storage.
ICESI 2018. Dalian is the first annual meeting of ICESI, which will be held once a year thereafter. The meeting arranged a total of 76 conference themed reports. The well-known experts and leader figures from over 10 countries including China, the United States, Britain, France, Japan, Germany, Canada, Australia et al. introduced their latest developments and achievements in energy storage field. At the same time, a number of well-known scholars at home and abroad, including editors of Joule, Nature Energy, Energy Environ. Sci., Nano Energy and Journal of Energy Chemistry, attended the meeting.
In addition, 22 oral reports and 57 posters were also arranged in this meeting. During the three-day conference, experts and scholars from all countries conducted extensive and deep exchanges and discussions over six main meeting themes of the industry and market demand for energy storage, liquid flow battery technology for energy storage, lithium-ion battery technology, emerging new energy storage technologies, youth scientist forums and poster presentation in the form of four parallel sessions, respectively. It is planned to issue the International Energy Storage Technology Development Declaration through this meeting and make the operating mechanism and framework of ICESI. After the meeting, participants visited after the DICP and Dalian Rongke Power Co., Ltd. During the meeting, all the experts and scholars highly valued the achievements and contributions of DICP in energy storage technology research. The successful holding of this meeting will build a solid platform for the in-depth exchange of energy storage in the world and also provided an opportunity for all the participants to establish a good cooperative relationship and accelerate the industrialization of large-scale energy storage technologies in the world.
