Recently, the 2012 Liaoning province science and technology award were published that the project ‘all vanadium redox flow battery(VFB) for energy storage with high performance, low cost non fluoride ion exchange membrane material’, which was led by Prof. Huamin Zhang, from Energy Storage Division, Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, was rewarded for Liaoning Province science and technology award second prize.

To overcome the obstacle of VFB using fluoride ion exchange membrane, Zhang’s team successfully developed non fluoride ion exchange membrane with high performance and low cost under the funding of 973 project sponsored by national Ministry of science and technology. Zhang’s team has developed VFB that could output a power of 500W, 1KW and 20KW, which leads domestic research and achieves international high level. Zhang’s team also cooperates with DALIAN RONGKE POWER (CO. Ltd) and established the first manufacturing line domestically. The cooperation VFB products have been used in solar energy system to supply electricity independently. The VFB products are also used in communication  station and electricity generation in remote areas.

In recent years, Zhang’s team has declared 21 items of national patent and 2 items of PCT patent, 3 of which have got the authorization.
