Employing a rapid evaluation system for duration test of a 2kW all vanadium liquid flow storage cell developed proprietarily by the research team headed by Prof. ZHANG Huamin, DICP researchers have started the duration test since 6th July, 2007. From then on, 7 charge-discharge cycles were performed each day. Up to 4th June, 2011, the vanadium storage cell has been operated for 1,429 days without any performance problems. The accumulated operation time exceeded 34,000 hours, and a total of 10,000 charge-discharge cycles have been carried out. No deterioration in performance efficiency of the storage cell has been observed. This is the second set of all vanadium liquid flow storage cell system in the world that has attained the breakthrough of 10,000 charge-discharge cycles, the first one was done by the Sumitomo Electric Corp. of Japan. At present, the duration test is still continuing at DICP.

This duration test result showed that the DICP all vanadium liquid flow storage cell system possessed superb reliability and durability. It also provided a concrete basis for the engineering processing and commercialization of the DICP system.
