Research and development of VRFB energy storage system under the national "863 Program" was identified and approved on March 29 in Dalian by experts from Ministry of Science & Technology and Ministry of Science and Technology of Liaoning Province. The program was in charge of Zhang Huamin Prof..
Experts all agreed that the rated output power and maximum discharge power of VRFB energy storage reached 10.1 kW and 23.9 kW respectively. The system was stable, and the energy efficiency came up to 80.4%. They over fulfilled the project task assessment indicators of the project duty book on time. The technology had reached the leading domestic and international advanced level.
According to experts, large-scale use of solar, wind and other renewable energy sources in China will enter a new period of development. The characteristic of this kind renewable energy power is instability and discontinuity, so it needs to develop and build support for energy storage (power storage) device or a power station to ensure power generation and supply continuity and stability. To research efficient energy storage technology and realize diversified energy sources has become the major issue of scientific research.
According to the need of the state, in the late 1990s DICP studied the iron - chromium flow battery energy storage. Research and development on sodium polysulfide / bromine flow battery energy storage and VRFB has begun since 2000. The preparation of electrode design, bipolar plate design , distribution of the electrolyte solution, battery utility pipeline design, battery assembly and system design and integration of technology has made significant progress. Our group successfully developed a 10-kilowatt VRFB energy storage system under the national "863" follow-up support.
